From Research to Real-World Solutions

As a researcher in color psychology, I have long been interested in how color influences human perception and behavior. With the Bona Resilient color collection, I aimed to translate these insights into practical solutions—developing a color palette that extends the life of elastic floors and enhances their aesthetic value.

Sustainable Design Through Color

The Bona Resilient color collection allows elastic floors to be refinished rather than replaced, reducing waste and conserving resources. By aligning color design with the natural role of flooring as a long-lasting building element, the collection helps create interiors that are both durable and visually cohesive.

Timeless Colors for Long-Lasting Surfaces

Floors are fundamental to interior design—yet they are also among the most permanent and resource-intensive elements of a space. The Bona Resilient palette focuses on restrained, natural tones that support timeless design. This approach allows for color accents to emerge through elements that can be refreshed more easily, such as walls and furnishings.

Color Design with Measurable Impact

The success of Bona Resilient demonstrates how carefully developed color strategies can contribute to both sustainability goals and market success. By addressing aesthetic and functional needs, the collection offers a practical, long-term solution for maintaining and updating elastic flooring.

Color Psychology as a Design Tool

Each color in the Bona Resilient collection is based on evidence from color psychology research—considering how colors influence emotions, well-being, and the perception of space. The palette is designed to create calm, balanced environments across a wide range of applications, from healthcare to education and commercial spaces.

Supporting Global Design Needs

While developed in collaboration with Bona, the Bona Resilient color collection is relevant for projects around the world. Its universal, nature-inspired colors can adapt to different cultural contexts and design languages—offering a flexible solution for architects, designers, and facility managers.

Color as a Bridge Between Aesthetics and Sustainability

My goal with this project was to help shift the perception of elastic floors—from a purely functional surface to a design element that contributes to the character and longevity of a space. By enabling reuse instead of replacement, the color collection supports a more sustainable, resource-conscious approach to design.

This project was realized with the valuable contributions of Lina Schmidt, Melissa Lindemeyer, Heike Krauss.
